Tomorrow

A Letter from the President

TXST was created on May 10, 1899, when Governor Joseph D. Sayers approved a bill establishing Southwest Texas State Normal School in San Marcos. The hopes, aspirations, and hard work of many over the decades have created the university we love today. TXST is thriving with two campuses, more than 38,000 students, 230,000 alumni, and research and academic excellence that is changing lives and the world.

We officially kick off our 125th anniversary on Founders Day, May 10, 2024, alongside spring commencement celebrations. Our theme for the 125th anniversary, The Legacy of Tomorrow, highlights how the mission of TXST has consistently focused on empowering and preparing our students to create a better future — for themselves, for their communities, for Texas, and for the world.

Building a brighter tomorrow has always been our guiding star, and now it is our time to shine!  I hope you will join us for a variety of events and activities to honor our past, celebrate our present, and envision our future throughout 2024.

– Dr. Kelly Damphousse, President of Texas State University

A Vision for the Future of TXST

Hopes & Aspirations High is a strategic vision for the future success of TXST and our students. Five ambitious goals outline how the vision will manifest: elevate student success, Run to R1, increase enrollment, grow the Round Rock Campus, and become an employer of choice.
